Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Theme Song Lyrics

The popular recording of the song was made by Vaughn Monroe on December 5, 1945, with a vocal trio of Clyde Burke, Charles LaVere and Lou Shelton. It became a popular hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard music charts in 1946.

The lyrics were written by Sammy Cahn, the music by Jule Styne. According to Cahn, the song was originally titled “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”.

Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

At first, the song was not considered a seasonal song, and this can be seen in some of the earliest recordings of the song. Vaughn Monroe’s recording only mentions winter twice: “It doesn’t show signs of stopping” and “I’ve got my love to keep me warm”. There are no references to Christmas or any holiday at all. In fact, there is no mention of snow outside the title lyric, “Let it Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”, which is repeated eight times in the song.

Two versions of the song charted in 1946; Vaughn Monroe’s version peaked at number one on Billboard’s Most Played Juke Box (Standard) Records chart and his version also peaked at number one on Billboard’s Best Selling Popular Retail Records chart, while Nat King Cole’s version reached number 22 on Billboard’s Disc Jockey chart.

The song has since become a pop standard and has been covered by many artists over the years, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Michael Bublé, Rod Stewart, Andy Williams, Connie Francis, Bing Crosby with The Andrews Sisters (released August 21, 1950), Brenda Lee (released March 1959), Doris Day (released October 19, 1959), Ella Fitzgerald (1960).

The popular jazz standard “Let it Snow” has been covered by dozens of artists over more than six decades.

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we’ve no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn’t show signs of stopping
And I’ve bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I’ll hate going out in the storm!
But if you’ll really hold me tight
All the way home I’ll be warm

The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we’re still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
